Crack is addicting, so is alcohol, even money, but now Social Networks? It's true. This woman in this article has an issue with it, big time. Her daughter can't even get the attention she needs because her mom has some serious issues. That is what Social Networks can do to you. It's no laughing matter. This woman in particular spends at least 20 hours a week on Facebook.
Now, not saying it is bad for everyone, but it has been noted by professionals that addiction to the computer, and social networks is definitely a concern. It's no joke. We need to be careful of how much time we spend on these sites and how much time we spend with our real lives and families. Families and friends mean so much more, so we should spend time enjoying them.

I really do believe Social Networking is an addiction because a lot of people can't live without it. My mom is a prime example. She has her phone right there on the floor, so as soon as she wake up in the morning, she is on facebook. When I go on facebook, I check and see what my friends and family is talking about, I may change my status, and talk to a couple of people for a little bit, and then I'm out.
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw the other social network sites before Facebook, I knew that there was going to be a big change on how we communicate to each other. i believe Facebook as a network to exchange I ideas and distance friends, but I must say I am in disappoint on the time people spend on it. We need to focus on real life and not who said what on facebook. There are some employers who check facebook on their employees just to see what they say about work. Once on the news a pastor had told his employees that they were not allowed on Facebook or they job would be terminated. See a little to serious there.
ReplyDeleteLove the picture! It's so sad to know this actually happens. My cousin is like that with her Blackberry. She's always doing something with it. It's always going off. Kind of annoying when you try to have a REAL conversation. But yes, social networks really are addictive. My best friend has a facebook and he tells me I can check it out and stuff, sometimes i do just to see pictures of friends that live far away. But even he doesn't check it for weeks. I think everything is fine in moderation.
ReplyDeleteFacebook is second life. Basically facebookers spend all their time interacting and never interact face to face. Facebook is great way to talk to family and friends you do not see much, but 20 hours a week is not healthy!!
ReplyDeleteI think that facebook might be the single most addictive thing amongst people in the world, and it usually is meant to keep up with friends and find old friends to catch up but now it has been turned into something more and can ruin relationships with friends, family, co-workers and anyone else who posts something they shouldnt. sooner or later people with never talk to one another in person, everything is through some sort of internet site. The internet may be taking over the way we live our lives.
ReplyDeleteOn the one hand, social networks are extremely important communication tools. On the other, they are extremely addictive, and when used without consideration can be extremely harmful for one’s intellectual development. Robert Hughes, a famous art critic, said, ‘The contest between education and TV has been won by television.’ And it’s gotten worse. Many other ingredients of popular culture such as videogames and interactive websites came into play. Some of these technological innovations are extremely harmful for the youth. Furthermore, we need to be clear about this: the children are not failing us; we are failing them. We, adults, offered our kids this vast number of alternatives to studying. American adolescents are led by celebrities’ smiles to thousands of entertaining networking websites. They spend hours playing video games or watching television while their peers in Japan and Britain spend their time studying.
ReplyDeleteI agree Facebook is good way keep in tuch with friends and family. Spent 20 hours per day on facebook, how does she has so much free time on facebook? I am afraid in the future people only can comunication in internet. I am told by a teacher, she said that when some parents pick up their kid from school. they on the phone all the time when they take their kids from classroom to their cars.
ReplyDeleteThis article is pretty crazy. Twenty hours a day? You would have to have a ton of friends covering all timezones at all time in order to have meaningful conversations/fun. If not you are probably just stalking otehr people's walls/facebooks/pages. I can't possibly find something like this done by a completely sane/normal person.
